Many women experience vaginal infections every year. As a matter of fact, the National Vaginitis Association refers to vaginal infections as the most common gynecological disorders with ten million doctor visits every year.

The three types of vaginal infections or vaginitis are bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis or yeast infection, and trichomoniasis or trich.

They are commonly caused by bacteria and hormonal imbalance. They are a source of major discomfort, irritability, and even pain if not treated immediately.

So how can these infections be treated? Here are some conventional and alternative treatments for vaginal infections:

  • Majority of women use nonprescription products such as antifungal creams like clotrimazole and miconazole.
  • Taking boric acid capsules increases vaginal acidity and is tested and proven to treat yeast infections.
  • Garlic is also a popular for its antifungal properties. You can buy deodorized garlic tablets or just add fresh garlic in your food.
  • Take supplements including vitamins A, C, E, and B6, zinc and grapefruit seed extract.
  • Discourage vaginal yeast by avoiding foods containing lots of sugar, molds, or yeasts.

These treatments are proven effective but you should always make it a point to consult your doctor before using any of them.
