While it is true that a woman’s fertility starts to decline after the age of 35, the decline is not so marked as to preclude proper use of contraception it has been warned.
According to this report, it has been seen that the abortion rates among women aged between 40 and 44 years is the same as the rate among girls under the age of 16 years.
This warning has been issued to dispel the myth perpetuated, that fertility rates among slightly older women may be less than it actually is.
The message of declining fertility is important to get across to the older mother; however this message may be overplayed.
