Breast cancer is one of the most dreaded conditions of them all. Nonetheless having breast cancer is not a death sentence and we have to keep in mind that there are a lot of people who managed to fight it and now they are the symbols of true survivors. They achieved all this while living in the spotlight.
1. Cynthia Nixon
A routine mammogram revealed a tumor in her breast and the star of Sex and the City was reluctant about revealing the news to the world. She didn’t reveal her condition during her treatment with radiation and lumpectomy. She shared her story when she thought that she could inspire the women having the same condition. We also have to note that her mother is also a survivor.
2. Sheryl Crow
Doctors have found suspicious calcifications in both of her breasts. She postponed a tour and had seven weeks of radiation treatment along with acupuncture and herbal teas. She didn’t need chemotherapy because her condition has been diagnosed at an early stage.
3. Kylie Minogue
A misdiagnosis almost cost her life. Luckily she went for a second opinion and doctors have found a lump in her left breast. Her treatment included a partial mastectomy, radiation and chemotherapy. She says that women should trust their intuition because it is possible for the doctors to be wrong.
4. Jaclyn Smith
She is one of Charlie’s Angels, but at one point she had to pursuit breast cancer instead of criminals. During a routine checkup a lump has been discovered in one of her breasts. She has been treated with radiation and lumpectomy and since then she stepped up for fighting breast cancer.
5. Christina Applegate
For a lot of women mastectomy is something unimaginable, let alone double mastectomy. This is what Christina Applegate opted to have, even though cancerous cells have been found only in one of her breasts. Since her mother also had the condition she wanted to reduce the chances of the cancer coming back. She will have breast reconstruction surgery sometime soon and she also would like to create a foundation for women who cannot afford an MRI testing.
6. Melissa Etheridge
She is known for having a show bald after having radiation and chemotherapy and also lumpectomy. She found a lump in her left breast while having a shower and she has been so inspired by her condition that she wrote a song about it.
