urinary tract infectionsUrinary Tract Infections are very common and may be quite debilitating. So it is best to exercise some care and prevent them from occurring in the first place:

  • Wipe from the front to the back and do not fold over the toilet paper; rather use a fresh square
  • Wean underwear with a cotton crotch; keep the G strings and thongs for only occasional use
  • Urinate after intercourse
  • Avoid baths when possible; shower instead and make sure that the tub is scrubbed clean
  • Drink plenty of water (and cranberry juice is also good but be sure to choose the sugar free variety) to keep your system well hydrated and clean and your kidneys flushing regularly. Also avoid drinks that contain too much caffeine.
  • Don’t resist going to the bathroom, let it out when the urge strikes.
  • If you use any sex toys make sure they are washed with soap and water.
  • Do not flush while sitting on the commode, always get up and then flush – the flush that spray bacteria around.
  • Feminine hygiene products and sanitary protection should be changed frequently to prevent bacterial build up.
  • Change underwear regularly and use a clean and freshly washed pair each time to replace it.
