We all know the famous rhyme “an apple a day will keep the doctor away”, but this is not just a coined word. This was originally quoted from a Pembroke shire proverb in 1866 that reads “Eat an apple on going to bed, and you’ll keep the doctor from earning his bread.”

swiss appleThis certainly is true because apples are known to be rich in Vitamin C and phenols, which helps boost the immune system and reduce cholesterol in the bloodstream.

Other than the major role of the apple fruit, it is also used to clean the mouth and decrease the incidence of tooth decay by killing the bad bacteria. And because it also contains quercetin, it protects the brain cells from advancing to degenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease.

Now, other than those health promoting properties, there is yet another discovery made with the apple fruit, but not any other apple rather the Uttwiler Spätlauber apple.

This uncommon apple found in the rural district of Switzerland is known for its longevity and fresh looking appearance, which is very good for business. Later, with the rise in popularity of the plant stem cell therapy, researchers found interest in this particular apple, seeing it as a potential plant donor to be used for anti-ageing products.

The researchers then got the Uttwiler Spätlauber apple plant donor and went on with their laboratory test and their hypothesis was confirmed that using the apple stem cell serum placed in a human umbilical cord stem cell showed an increase in the human stem cells by as much as 80%! A very promising outcome that led to another discovery, when the same human cells were exposed to UV rays, it displayed a decrease in death of the cells.

The success of the clinical trial did not stop there, so they made a particular test using aged fibroblast cells, a particular cell that holds the skin together making it young, tight and smooth. They nurtured the cells with 2% of the Uttwiler Spätlauber apple stem cell serum and showed a remarkable decrease in the damage to the cells.

This result paved the way for human trial, using the same solution to be applied to crow’s feet wrinkles around the eyes. After four weeks of use and three times daily application it showed a decrease in creases by 15.

This gives a lot of credit to the apple fruit being the latest trend in anti-ageing products, which is now considered a necessity because of the modern day living and challenges that go with it.
