Normal sexual aversion problem

In order to understand the disorder first people have to see that there are some circumstances when it is normal to lose some interest in sexual intercourse. As an example it is normal for women to lose their sexual drive during menopause.

Some other reasons for sexual aversion problem include childbirth, recovery from a surgery or illness, during or before menstruation and during the period when people are under stress, such as the death of a person, retirement, the loss of a job or divorce.

These reasons for sexual aversion disorder are normal, they last for a limited period of time. Becoming a parent or getting a new job could also cause some changes. In case someone doesn’t have enough time for himself or herself or not having the opportunity to be together with the partner could also cause problems.

Another one of the reasons of sexual aversion problem is having an elderly parent in the house, which is common in case of middle-aged people. Fatigue, depression or stress could also have a word to say when it comes to the sex drive.

This is a stronger dislike than in the situations mentioned above and in this case people are actively and knowingly avoiding sex. In this case we aren’t talking only about a decreased desire, but also about revulsion, fear, disgust and similar feelings.

There are numerous different forms that the sexual aversion problem could have. It is possible that the person in question has problems only with certain aspects of sexual intercourse, such as the odors of body secretions or the sight of the partner’s genitals.

Some other activities that could become the object of sexual aversion disorder include hugging, kissing and petting besides intercourse.

This is why sometimes people having this problem avoid all kinds of sexual activities. There are also some people who don’t mind having certain activities, but they prefer not to get to genital contact.

When it comes to sexual aversion problem, there are several sub-classifications that we could be referring to. This may be a problem that the person in question had all their life, or it appeared after some kind of trauma; it can be general or situational.

In some cases regarding this kind of problem we have to talk about psychological factors or a combination of psychological and physical factors.

Symptoms and causes

As it has been mentioned before, there are numerous causes of the problem. In the majority of the cases these refer to traumatic experiences or interpersonal problems. If we are referring to the interpersonal problems, then usually the sexual aversion disorder is situational, only with a given sexual partner or specific situations.
