Abortion side effects
There are two kinds of abortion: surgical and medical. Although the physical side effects could vary, the emotional effects are about the same.
Surgical abortion side effects
This is a surgical procedure and the side effects could include cramping, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting and nausea and there might also be some negative reactions to anesthesia.
Although it’s rare, it is possible to encounter complications during abortion that could increase the side effects. This is why it is important to know about them before you actually agree to the procedure.
Such side effects of abortion include bleeding right after abortion. Heavy bleeding or hemorrhaging could also occur in case the cervix has been torn or the uterus has been punctured. The situation could be so severe that the patient needs blood transfusion.
Since it is a procedure that requires anesthesia, this could result in convulsion, heart attack and in rare and extreme cases even death. The complication may get more severe by two and a half times because of the general anesthesia.
During the procedure there is need to insert different tools into the uterus, and these could cause the infection of the pelvis.
Scarring could also occur and in extreme cases a whole body infection could also occur that is known as sepsis. Such infections can cause fever and there have been numerous women who have lost their lives because of this.
Another one of the abortion side effects could be the scarring of the uterine lining. The side effects of abortion also include the tearing of the cervix and the uterus during the procedure and this could lead to excessive bleeding. In order to repair this, you may need other surgeries.
The other internal organs around the uterus could be at risk, like the bowel and the bladder.
Medical abortion side effects
This kind of abortion might be considered to be simpler, because it is using a pill to induce abortion. Nonetheless, although it seems less complicated, this could also have some side effects. These include spotting and bleeding, fever and chills, headaches and dizziness, cramping and diarrhea, vomiting and nausea.
Also in this case as side effects of abortion there could be some complications. One of the most common is bleeding. This usually lasts for 12 days after the abortion, but in many cases women experience prolonged bleeding, that could last over 30 days.
Just as in the previous case, the abortion side effects also include an infection in the body that could cause illness and infertility.
In rare cases, as side effects of abortion, it is possible for parts of the fetus to be left behind in the uterus even though the abortion has been completed. Such situation is known as incomplete abortion and it could lead to infection and bleeding.
