Female sexual dysfunction affects around half of women around the world. This is very common but something that is never talked about. This is most common with women who are older and usually around menopause. There are different forms of the condition and it will affect women in different ways.

Why do women suffer from female sexual dysfunction?

There are different forms so it is difficult to pin down the exact reason why someone will suffer from this condition. When a woman goes through menopause, her hormones dramatically change which is something that will lead to the condition. However, hormones fluctuate in every woman and it will cause this issue.Female Sexual Dysfunction

There are also psychological issues that will affect a woman’s desire for sexual intimacy and being able to orgasm. These can include the way that the woman was raised or may even link to trauma at some point in life.

Female sexual dysfunction – Loss of desire

This is one of the most common problems. Most women will suffer from this at some point but only temporarily – maybe it is that time of the month or leading up to it.

However, there are some that will suffer from it all of the time and there are many reasons for it.

Psychological and physical issues are common for this type of dysfunction, especially mental diseases or problems. Depression, bipolar mood disorder and anxiety will have an effect on what a woman wants, while trauma and relationship issues will also have an effect emotionally and psychologically.

Hormone disorders are also a common cause, especially when there is a drop in testosterone. This is produced in a cycle and if it is low, there will be no sex drive.

Female sexual dysfunction – Orgasm problems

There are two forms of this problem; some women will have never experienced an orgasm and others will just lose the ability to have one. While not every woman will need to have an orgasm to be able to enjoy intercourse with their partner, it can put stress and strain on the relationship – especially the partner.

There are many reasons why this happens to women, including relationship problems, not being in the mood and just a lack of knowledge on both parts for the woman and her partner. There are also some medical conditions that are thought to reduce the blood flow to the clitoris and research is being done into this.

Female sexual dysfunction – Pain during intercourse

Pain is enough to put anybody off anything, so women who feel pain during intercourse are usually put off trying again. The main cause for this is a lack of lubrication, which is extremely common during menopause.

There are also times when the muscles in the vagina spasm, which will mean that penetration is difficult and painful – there are times that it is impossible to do. This becomes distressing for both partners and leads to both being put off the idea of sex. This form of female sexual dysfunction is usually a psychological problem and just means learning how to control the muscles and add more lubrication to the body.
