Some causes of ovarian cysts

This leads to the formation of a follicular cyst. Women experiencing pain usually report that it is at its worst during the period of ovulation.
Another common cause of ovarian cysts is endometriosis. This is the medical condition which leads to the formation of a tissue which grows within the uterus for growing in places outside the uterus. In this condition, the cysts are quite large and may lead to excruciating pain or infertility.
Women with a condition which is called the polycystic ovarian syndrome can be susceptible to an ovarian cyst. While the real reasons behind the polycystic ovarian syndrome are not known, it is present in women who are healthy as well as those with hormonal problems.
The polycystic ovarian syndrome leads to the growth of multiple cysts on the ovaries which cause intense pain or infertility. Women who have this condition are taken to be at a high risk of cervical cancer.
While all the causes of ovarian cysts are hardly life threatening, they may lead to infertility, pain and chances of a severe condition. Any unusual symptom or extreme pain during the period of menstruation or ovulation should immediately be mentioned to the doctor.
Additional testing may prove the existence of ovarian cysts which can help in further investigation. Your doctor may prescribe hormonal therapy or even an elimination of the uterus through a process known as hysterectomy.
Diagnosis
Most ovarian cysts do not demonstrate any kind of symptoms or signs. This is because they generally go undiagnosed. This is also why it is tough to accurately diagnose the prevalence and incidence of the condition. At times, the cyst may not show any symptoms and may be diagnosed in an unrelated ultrasound scan or pelvic examination.
Patients having symptoms will be recommended by their general physician or GP to a doctor specialized in researching the causes of ovarian cysts. The doctors should determine the shape, size and cyst composition.
