Getting a vaginal yeast infection is never a pleasant thing for a woman or a man.

Yeast infection is actually a fungus that grows on your body.

Both men and women can get yeast infection. It can be very uncomfortable. You may have symptoms that you wish you could do without.

Most women feel an itchy burning sensation in and around the vagina while men feel this in the genital area.

Women may also have to deal with an unpleasant odor for a while and a vaginal discharge that does not seem to want to quit.  Do not worry too much though because this condition is easily cured and it can be avoided if you practice certain things.yeast infection

Staying Dry

Try to stay dry. If you keep your vagina or genital area wet a lot then you are more susceptible to yeast infection. A wet area is something that yeast love to find. They use this area for a breeding ground.

This fungus can only grow under moist conditions. If you are maintaining exercise routine then you will want to take a shower after you exercise. This will get the sweat off you and keep you dryer. Maybe you work outside a lot in the sun and sweating is a big problem for you.

If this is the case then you will need to make sure you use a powder on your private area to help you keep dry during the day. For women though sometimes wetness can be a personal medical problem. You will need to talk to your doctor about ways to stop this from happening.

Blood Sugar

If you have diabetes, you need to try to keep your blood sugar at the allowable level set by your doctor. Too much sugar in your blood can cause yeast infection. If you have too much sugar in your blood the yeast can grow and you may experience too many yeast infections.

You may not have diabetes but are still suffering from a yeast infection problem. In this case, you will have to change the way you eat. It would be a good thing to discontinue eating white bread. Taking sweets such as pie and cake out of your diet should help to take care of this problem, also.

Underwear

Cotton underwear is a good idea for both men and women. Other types of underwear made of Lycra seem to help the yeast infection breed. This underwear does not let your skin breath and can help the yeast infection to grow. Just be careful in the types of underclothing that you wear.

Products to Avoid

Using products that have a petroleum base in and around your vagina or genitals is not a good thing to do. You will want to use water based products instead.

Certain types of powder and deodorants can also cause an infection when used in your private area. If you are a woman then you should not use douches if you are prone to yeast infections. Douches can wash away natural mucus that is supposed to be there.
