Any woman who is going through a period of menopause is likely to experience many bodily changes, mood changes and other symptoms which are difficult to deal with. One of most common sign of menopause is hot flashes/night sweat or menopause sweats. Hot flashes are the first change or symptom which is associated with a woman who is reaching her menopause state or phase in life. Hot flashes can be very discomforting and may cause a sensation of extreme heat. The following are some effective ways to control hot flashes:
Many studies and research have shown that soy has some amount of benefit as far as controlling menopause sweat is concerned. So using soy will help you find relief from the sweats which are associated with menopause. Some foods which are high on soy are tofu, miso, soy milk, whole soybeans, soy powder and tempeh. It is recommended that soy containing foods must be preferred over supplements.
2. Black cohosh
This is often considered an effective and popular choice for any female who wishes to reduce hot flashes. This food also works wonderfully to reduce the other symptoms associated with menopause such as headaches, anxiety and heart palpitations.
If you are someone who is experiencing hot flashes and wishes to reduce its intensity, then try exercising for about 30 minutes every day. You can walk, jog, run, ride a cycle or walk up and down the stairs for results to show. But remember not to exercises atleast 3 hours before going to bed as this may lead to night sweats.
4. Natural progesterone
This is another way to reduce menopause sweats. Natural progesterone is available in many forms-over the counter creams and capsules etc. and can be used to relieve the other symptoms of menopause as well.
Effexor is an antidepressant which has proved to decrease hot flashes in menopausal women. It is mainly used by those who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer but also works during menopause. Remember to seek doctor’s consultation before using this antidepressant.
Gabapentin is a drug which is used for the treatment of migraines headaches but has also proved effective for relieving night sweats and hot flashes during menopause. You must talk to your doctor before using this drug for reducing sweats during menopause.
7. Dietary triggers
There are certain food items which can trigger hot flashes or menopause sweats and hence if you are experiencing a lot of sweats, then you must avoid having foods like alcohol, caffeine and spicy food items. If there are other foods which you have observed to cause sweats, then try reducing their intake and observe the changes.
8. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
HRT is a treatment in which there is replacement of estrogen and is shown to provide relief from excessive sweats during menopause. However, remember to use estrogen sparingly as it is associated with medical risk. Talk to your medical practitioner before undergoing this therapy.
9. Change clothing
Try wearing cotton clothes or other materials which do not stick to your skin.
